Americans are known around the world for being competitive and when they saw
how successful the various continental European warmbloods were in competitive
equestrian disciplines, particularly show-jumping and dressage, in was only
natural that they want to establish their own Warmblood horse.
They imported
high-class European warmbloods and in the early 1980s started the American
Warmblood Society, with the goal of creating a superior performance warmblooded
horse in the US of A. As a warmblood, though, they could technically be anything
other than one hundred percent hot blood or one hundred percent coldblood, and
the Americans could introduce into their embryonic breed almost anything, from
heavy horse breeds to almost completely Arabian or Thoroughbred, which gives
them an amazing selection of genes. It seems that it will be a long time before
a recognizable breed emerges, but the rest of the world can be sure that
whatever animal comes out from under the banner of American Warmblood in the
future, it will certainly be able to excel in competition.
