Horsekeeping on a Small Acreage: Designing and Managing Your Equine Facilities

- Brandenburg -

The Brandenburg, or Brandenburger, stud was founded at Neustadt on the Dosse in 1787. The breed was originally intended to be a multi-purpose warmblood horse, light enough for riding and carriage work but also built heavily enough for farm usage. After World War Two, the breed was rebuilt based on the Hanoverian and Trakehner breeds, and they are no longer aiming for a heavy warmblood horse, but rather for the sport horse now desired around the world.

The Brandenburg horse is a well-balanced horse with a lively temperament. They are easy to get along with and have a little tendency to be nervous, although they are found in all aspects of the riding and drving sports to be exceptionally good.

These horses have medium sized heads, medium length, well-set necks, long, straight backs, and a well-muscled, if rather long, croup. They have strong legs and stand around 165 cm tall at the withers. (don't ask me how many hands that is). Their color is mainly bay.
