- Bay -

The body coloring of a bay horse is brown or reddish with a black mane and tail, black on the legs and ears, with the occasional white socks or stocking and white markings on the face. Bay horses will often have black points, which are the muzzle, the tips of the ears, mane, tail, and lower part of the legs. There are different kinds of bay, described as bright bay, dark bay, light bay, mahogany bay, and blood bay. These colors are determined by the amount of lighter brown or darker brown hairs in the coat.
