- Lesson Plan 5 - Beginner -

Objective: increased balance at the walk, ability to steer correctly and focus in intended direction, good deep seat, soft hands/cues
  1. Halter horse, lead into barn and crosstie
  2. Groom horse, tack up English
  3. Mount, adjust stirrups/tighten girth
  4. Stretches/mounted exercises - round the world, touch bridle and tail, touch toes, windmills, pull legs up to stretch, draw circles with toes, reach for the sky, stand in stirrups
  5. Walk horse along rail to warm up
  6. Walk/halt at each letter placed around the arena
  7. Walk/halt/back/stop/walk at each letter
  8. Walk over poles on the ground - look ahead where you're going
  9. Weave between cones - placed in a straight line or around the arena rail
  10. Make large circles on both ends of the arena
  11. Make small circles at each letter
  12. Stop and stand at each letter
  13. (for a child) stop and stand in stirrups at each letter until an animal with that letter is named: (i.e. F - Frog)
  14. Walk horse out to cool down
  15. Dismount, untack, put horse away
