Objective: introduction, evaluation
  1. Tour of facilities for new student
  2. Introduce lesson horse
  3. Explain how to approach horse
  4. Discuss how to act and how NOT to act around a horse
  5. Introduce halter, lead rope, and how to use them
  6. Explain leading a horse and safety while doing so
  7. Lead horse around an open area for practice for a few large circles
  8. Learn to stop, start, and back up a horse while in hand
  9. Lead horse into barn, crosstie
  10. Learn how to groom a horse and where to stand/not to stand
  11. Learn to pick out hooves
  12. Introduce saddle and bridle and how to put them on the horse
  13. Tack up horse, lead out to arena
  14. Tighten girth, adjust stirrups, mount horse
  15. Lead horse around at a walk, let student get comfortable on horse
  16. Teach turning/steering - pulley rein or neck rein, whether English or western
  17. Learn why heels down and shoulders back is important, and why we wear a helmet when riding
  18. Go over ground poles
  19. Weave in-between cones on ground
  20. Learn to dismount
  21. Untack horse, groom, put horse away
