The Italian Trotter originated
in Italy, and is known locally as the Trottatore Itliano. It does
have a breed society, and its herdbook was established in 1940,
so it is a fairly new breed. In the year 2002, there were only 400
males and 6,000 females in breeding service, but hopefully that
number will increase quickly. Very little else in known about this
breed.
