The Posavina Horse developed in Croatia, by the
flood plains of the Sava River. Its breeding background includes
the Arabian, Spanish, Italian, Nonius, and Liptsa horses. They can
be black, bay, or grey, and stand about 15.2 hh. They are characterized
by their noble heads and broad, concave, ecliptic ears. They were
used for pulling and for managing the vegetation....basically, they
were used as lawnmowers!!
They are very resistant to diseases of various kinds, and they
are used to living in harsh conditions. They have broad, flat hooves
that are very strong and good for grazing on the flooded plains.
Although these horses are not endangered, there are not very many
left in existence today.
